Meetup starts at 6:30pm, with 30 minutes of social time. Beginning at 7pm, Jessica Kerr will give us an overview of the Git version control system.
To the Subversion user, Git might seem like just another VCS. But watch out - treating Git like Subversion can bite you in the butt. There are a million five-minute tutorials that tell you what to type -- instead, Jessica will talk about the concepts behind Git. Those frustrating differences between git and svn will start to make sense, and then you can turn them to your advantage.
After a quick break, Michael Bradley will follow with a short presentation on Travis CI. Travis bills itself as "a distributed build system for the open source community." Travis is great for node.js developers, allowing you to painlessly interweave GitHub, unit testing, and push-notifications (webhooks, IRC bot, etc.) for continuous integration goodness.
Starting about 8:15pm, we'll move into a hacking session to experiment with the material that's been presented, and with JavaScript and node.js in general.
Lumeris will be providing complementary food and beverages, and the pub downstairs serves good beer, so come hungry, come thirsty, bring your laptop and be ready to code!
